PROTOLABS
Services Provided: Video + Photo Production, Product Photography, Leadership Headshots
A partnership, not a project.
Nearly a decade of photo and video at one of the world's fastest manufacturing services.
“We've worked with Marko and his production team for nearly a decade. His technical expertise and storytelling vision are immediate from the first time you partner with him on a project, but what really sets Calibrated Visuals apart from others is their immersion in your brand. They take the time to understand what you do as a company, which allows them to tell a more intriguing brand story. We have a complex manufacturing business model at Protolabs yet they're able to bring our brand to life in a way that resonates with our engineering audience. It's why we've had such a productive 10-year partnership."
— Will Martin, Global Brand Director, Protolabs
Who They Are:
Protolabs is one of the world's fastest manufacturing services. They produce custom parts on demand across injection molding, machining, 3D printing, and sheet metal, supporting companies through every stage of the product lifecycle, from prototype to full production. A complex manufacturing business model with an engineering-first audience.
What They Needed:
Protolabs' marketing team needed more than a production vendor. They needed a partner who could speak the language of their work, document the depth of their operations, and produce content that resonated with the engineers and product teams who actually buy their services. A sustained content library built across capabilities, products, people, and brand. Produced consistently enough that the team could keep pulling from it for years.
The Work:
A partnership that started with a single project and grew into nearly a decade of work.
Photo and video produced across all five U.S. facilities: Maple Plain, Rosemount, Brooklyn Park, and Plymouth, Minnesota, and Morrisville, North Carolina. Plus content support for their international locations. The work covers Protolabs' full production stack: injection molding, machining, 3D printing, and finishing, captured on real floors with the operators running them.
The work has grown across three coordinated areas. Process and capability documentation captured across every facility, covering operators, machines, and the people behind them. Studio-style product photography produced for campaign-specific technical use. And a leadership and people photography library built using an on-location studio we set up at their headquarters, used across bios, internal communications, and external brand presence.
The video work has spanned capabilities pieces for internal and external use, brand films, annual meeting videos, trade show capture, and recruiting content. Protolabs has since built their own in-house edit and media team to keep producing from the library we've captured together.
The Outcome:
What started as a single project has grown into a partnership measured in years, not campaigns. The library Protolabs has built with Calibrated Visuals continues to be pulled from across capabilities marketing, internal communications, sales decks, trade show materials, and brand storytelling. A working asset library that has outlasted any single project and continues to support the company's marketing function across every channel they're responsible for.
